In 2023, we can see that there is no shortage of innovation in technology designed to increase accessibility and assistance, with new and exciting advancements made by tech companies every day. Technology can come in many forms as it relates to goals and objectives for Sunrise.

Directed by Kim Gehring, “The Greatest” is a beautifully produced campaign demonstrating the powers of accessible technology for all. The video stars people with disabilities using smartphones, tablets and watches to access innovative features like Door Detection, Sound Recognition, and Voice Control.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

All branches of the federal government play critical roles in affirming, securing, and achieving the vision of inclusion and ensuring that the civil rights of persons with disabilities are realized. One of the leading voices in Washington, D.C., providing a voice for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and direct support professionals (DSPs) is ANCOR.

On Friday, October 14th, Board Chair Steve Weinger and I attended the 35th Annual Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Miami Chapter Endowment Fund Luncheon. At the luncheon, a member of the Sunrise Board of Directors, Connie Crowther, was honored with the Bill Adams Lifetime Achievement Award.

For the 2022 DSPRW celebration, the Sunrise Branding committee held an organization-wide art contest for the people we serve. The contest asked participants to share artwork illustrating what “unconditional support” means to them. The winner would have their artwork printed on the back of the shirts gifted to all 2,000+ Direct Support Professionals.

Disability Voting Rights Week is a national, nonpartisan initiative this September to build the power and presence of the disability vote. Disability Voting Rights Week is coordinated by the American Association of People with Disabilities’ (AAPD) REV UP Voting Campaign.

Midterm elections are just around the corner, and thousands of state and local offices are up for election. While it may be tempting to focus solely on Congressional races, voting on a state and local level is critical.

One of the best and most engaging ways to completely transform the atmosphere of any room is by giving it a fresh coat of paint. United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and their corporate partner OTIS Elevators was kind enough to do just that a couple of weeks ago at Sunrise’s Day Program in Hartford, CT.
