Empowering Voices Through Art: Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day at the Florida Capitol

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day at the Florida Capitol

On a recent visit to the Tallahassee capitol for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day, Sunrise Community had the honor of partnering with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) to showcase the incredible artistic talents of the individuals we serve. It was a day filled with inspiration, collaboration, and the celebration of abilities!

From paintings to handcrafted soaps, each piece spoke volumes about the abilities and unique perspectives of those we serve. Our collaboration with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities provided an invaluable platform to share the remarkable achievements of the individuals we support throughout Florida.

The event offered a showcase of artwork and an opportunity to connect with families, share resources, and share crucial information about the services available to those with developmental disabilities. The engagement with families attending the event was terrific, and we provided a deeper understanding of the support systems available through Sunrise Community. Our team was on hand to share insights, answer questions, and foster connections within the community.

During the event, we seized a special moment to express our appreciation to Director Taylor Hatch of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities. In a heartfelt gesture, we had the privilege of presenting Director Hatch with a remarkable piece of artwork created by the talented individuals we support. This symbolic interaction showcased the artistic abilities of those in our community and served as a token of appreciation for the collaborative efforts between APD and service providers in Florida.

The success of this event underscores the importance of collaboration and awareness in creating an inclusive society. We extend our gratitude to the Agency for Persons with Disabilities for the opportunity to showcase the incredible talents of those we serve and the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council for coordinating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day at the capitol. As we reflect on this enriching experience, we are reminded of the impact that advocacy, awareness, and partnership can have in fostering a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals with developmental disabilities!
