October is a month of significance for many reasons, and one such reason is the observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This annual observance celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and highlights the importance of inclusive workplaces.

Disability Voting Rights Week (DVRW) is a vital, nonpartisan, nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening the influence of the disability vote. Led by the American Association of People with Disabilities’ (AAPD) REV UP Voting Campaign, DVRW strives to address the challenges and barriers that have historically prevented people with disabilities from fully participating in the democratic process.

This week (September 10-16, 2023) serves as a reminder of the essential work Direct Support Professionals do and an opportunity to celebrate their unwavering commitment to the people they serve.

In an inspiring display of support and dedication, various legislators from the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation recently visited Sunrise Community. This memorable event not only fostered an opportunity for lawmakers to witness firsthand the transformative work being done at Sunrise, but it also included a check signing ceremony for a 2023 appropriations project of $402,000. 

United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades provided funding for Sunrise’s Cape Coral Day Program to create a more accessible computer and technology lab for people with disabilities.

Disability Pride Month takes place every July, and it’s all about embracing and celebrating the diverse abilities and experiences of people with disabilities. It’s a time to honor their achievements, raise awareness about the challenges they face, and advocate for inclusion and accessibility in all aspects of life.
