Celebrating 35 Years of the Americans With Disabilities Act!

Today marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Signed into law in 1990, this groundbreaking legislation has transformed the landscape for millions of people with disabilities across the United States by ensuring equal access, opportunities, and protections in all areas of public life.

The ADA was a bold declaration that disability rights are civil rights. It opened doors to accessible public spaces, inclusive workplaces, equal education, and nondiscrimination. Thanks to this law, barriers that once limited full participation are being dismantled every day.

Over the past three and a half decades, we have witnessed inspiring stories of empowerment and achievement. People with disabilities are leading businesses, serving in government, innovating in technology, and enriching communities in countless ways. The ADA laid the foundation for a more equitable society where every person’s abilities are recognized and valued.

Yet the journey is far from over. Accessibility remains an ongoing challenge, and there is still work to be done to ensure that inclusion is not just a legal requirement but a lived reality for everyone. As we honor this anniversary, it is important to recommit ourselves to advocating for equal access, raising awareness, and breaking down both visible and invisible barriers.

At Sunrise Community, we celebrate the spirit of the ADA every day by supporting persons supported in living meaningful lives filled with opportunity, respect, and dignity.

Let this 35th anniversary be a moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed dedication. Together we can continue building a future where accessibility and inclusion are truly universal.
