Sunrise recruited Jorge in 1996 to lead the transition of people with severe behavioral challenges into the community. This was a daunting, new venture for Sunrise with a very urgent timeline. Jorge’s assignment was merely to open six new community homes across two different counties, hire 60 staff, appease hostile neighbors, and reassure frightened parents. A project that would usually take a year needed to be accomplished in less than three months.
Jorge worked tirelessly to achieve the mission and never missed a beat. The homes were the first Sunrise behavior focus homes in Florida, and because of their success, they became the prototype for behavioral services throughout the state. Jorge immediately earned the trust and respect of the State of Florida regulatory agency, which transferred across three different counties. His reputation led to his team taking on many new projects, some with very short notice. Jorge never turned down an opportunity to expand his knowledge, so with his quart size cups of expresso by his side, Jorge became a Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst in 2005. This training enhanced his behavioral expertise to further support the people he served.
Jorge was a dedicated pioneer, giving people with severe challenges a new chance at living valued lives in the community. His positive impact on so many lives is immeasurable. Thank you, Jorge, for 24 years of dedicated service, and best of wishes for your well-earned retirement.
