A Night to Shine and Remember

On February 10th, 2023, tens of thousands of people with disabilities across the globe gathered for an unforgettable prom night experience thanks to the Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine event! The foundation created this complimentary event so people with disabilities (ages 14 and older) could walk down a red carpet, dance, sing karaoke, and be crowned kings and queens for the night! The Tim Tebow Foundation works diligently to provide churches worldwide with the tools and resources they need to execute a perfect night for the honored guests. Several persons supported by Sunrise Community had the opportunity to enjoy this special night at the VOUS and St. Bonaventure Churches.

Here’s what Maylin Cespedes, Community Resource Specialist said about her time as a volunteer at Night to Shine:

It was a fantastic time at Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine event at the VOUS Church on 2/10/23. Sunrise Community had the opportunity to participate in this great night! The honored guests were greeted by many fans cheering them on as the Royal Kings and Queens that they are! There were hundreds of people that attended the event, as well as many volunteers from the church and community.

There were several pre-party activities, including hair and makeup stations for the Queens and shoeshines for the Kings. Some honored guests arrived in limousines and walked down a magnificent red-carpet entrance where guests and other attendees cheered on as they entered the venue. Delicious food was served, a few of the Royals sang karaoke, and many showed their moves on stage and on the dance floor. It was a packed house, for sure!

Everyone had the grandest of times! There were also special accommodations for those that needed a break by offering a sensory room for the honored guests and a respite room for their caregivers. The honored guests were paired up with a buddy if they needed one, that guided them through the events of the night. The volunteers at the VOUS Church did a fantastic job making all the honored guests feel loved and special! It was a night to remember!
