Celebrating 60 Years of Impact at Sunrise Community

Last week, Sunrise Community hosted a heartfelt celebration at our South Miami-Dade 162nd Campus, marking six decades of empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. What began in 1964 as a vision to build a more supportive and person-centered world has grown into a legacy of service, advocacy, and meaningful impact.

The celebration brought together a wide range of supporters for a memorable celebration filled with joy, gratitude, and connection. We were honored to welcome local, state, and county officials, chamber representatives, fellow providers, and even internationally recognized artist George Rodez. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the community’s shared commitment to support persons with disabilities.

As part of the event, guests had the opportunity to tour the campus, gaining a closer look at the services and programs that we provide to enrich the lives of the persons we support each day. The tour gave attendees a firsthand understanding of how Sunrise’s mission is lived by dedicated staff.

A highlight of the event was the dedication of our newly renamed Les Leech Campus, honoring the legacy of our former CEO. It was a privilege to celebrate his forty years of service with his family and reflect on the values that continue to guide our work today.

His legacy of compassion, visionary leadership, and unwavering belief in the value of every person continues to guide and inspire our mission.

We are deeply grateful to all who helped make this celebration possible and to everyone who has been a part of our journey over the past 60 years. We look forward to the future with renewed purpose and appreciation for the milestones ahead.

Here’s to continuing the journey together!
