1997: United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Hartford, Inc. in Hartford, Connecticut joined The Sunrise Group after this agency, which had successfully provided assistance and supports to children and adults with disabilities for more than forty years, was facing bankruptcy. Sunrise Northeast, Inc., offers Residential, Day and Employment supports in several locations throughout Connecticut. Sunrise’s Studio/Gallery Everlasting Design Consignment Shop located at 435 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon, CT 06066 offers a unique opportunity to earn wages through employment in an integrated community setting. Open to the public, individuals with disabilities assisted by Sunrise operate the shop and enjoy daily experiences with others of varying abilities. Residential supports include 28 CLA licensed homes. Based on our demonstrated record of exemplary performance, Sunrise consistently receives two-year certifications for licensure renewal. State of Connecticut Officials have awarded Sunrise Northeast, Inc. a multitude of awards in recognition of our Citation Free/ Perfect Reviews.

Waterford Location

Harkness Memorial State Park (230 acres), is a public park and botanical garden located in Waterford, Connecticut, on the Long Island Sound. The park was formerly Eolia, the estate of Edward Harkness, heir to a fortune initiated by his father’s substantial investments in John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil, who purchased the mansion in 1907. From 1918 to 1929, extensive improvements were made by landscape designer Beatrix Jones Farrand. Eolia was left to Connecticut in 1950 and became part of the State Park system in 1952.Camp Harkness is a 102-acre parcel, part of the original Harkness Estate. The property was donated for public health. The State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Disabilities has administrative responsibility for the camp, and we have an agreement with them to utilize cabins several weeks during the year.
