Coral Gables PALS "Giving Back" & Learning About South Florida Fauna
Coral Gables PALS have been loyal, dedicated volunteers on Sunrise beautification projects since 2012. They have contributed time, labor and skills to various Sunrise locations throughout Miami-Dade county from Miami Beach down to Homestead. In addition to our mission, Sunrise volunteers keep coming back because they learn a lot while giving back to their local community. No project was too big or too small for this dedicated team of volunteers. The end results of their work was breath-taking! Check out their photo album.

Coral Gables PALS Show Up & Paint The Town... Errr, ADT
Kicking off a busy summer of beautification projects for Sunrise, Coral Gables PALs started in Doral. On Wednesday, July 6th, the Adult Day Training Center received updates from the inside out (literally)! Student volunteers started with interior painting on classrooms in the pre-vocational skills area; then spread out to clean the parking lot and finished the day by giving a fresh coat of paint to the asphalt and parking spaces alike. Without the generous support and hands-on engagement of community partners like Coral Gables’ PALs, Sunrise would not be able to serve so many individuals and families across the East Coast. Our deepest appreciation to our PAL teen volunteers!!

Thank you to all Sunrise #Volunteers!
Perhaps the first and biggest benefit people get from volunteering is the satisfaction of incorporating service into their lives and making a difference in their community and country. The intangible benefits alone—such as pride, satisfaction, and accomplishment—are worthwhile reasons to serve. At Sunrise locations from Homestead to Hartford, much of what we do is accomplished with the help of dedicated volunteers who provide service hours, donations and labor to help ensure that people with developmental disabilities live valued lives in the community. Thank you for all you do!

It’s National Volunteer Appreciation Week!
Happy National Volunteer Week! President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974, as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers. Every sitting U.S. president since Nixon has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week (as have many U.S. mayors and governors). Here at Sunrise, we are celebrating #NVW2016 by honoring our volunteers and the people who make our mission possible. Thank you for all that you do to strengthen our community — your work is truly extraordinary!

UCP on the Potomac: Volunteers With Disabilities Are Giving Back
Including volunteers with disabilities in charity activities is good for everyone! Through their service, volunteers with physical and mental challenges often change the perspectives of the communities in which they work. A diverse volunteer pool provides benefits such as improved public image, increased access to talented groups, diminished volunteer turnover, and improved overall financial operation. In addition to this, organizations that engage volunteers with disabilities are often more representative of society. As a result, charities are able to attract a greater number of service users, and appear more welcoming to patients, customers, donors, the general public, and even other volunteers. It is literally a win-win for all involved.
