Publix was founded on the philosophy of service. As a responsible corporate citizen, Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) supports efforts to improve communities across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. PSMC focuses on youth, education (specifically literacy), and helping the homeless and hungry. Publix collected a total of $4,433,287.46 for its 2015 “Food For All” campaign. The funds we raised are used to fight hunger and advocate for self-sufficiency in the communities where the funds were raised.

Dis HungerHere in Miami, Sunrise is honored to have been among the recipients receiving awards from the $1,480,940.72 raised in South Florida. The awards were held on Wednesday, April 6th. Sunrise President & CEO, Les Leech accepted $7,500 from Publix’s campaign. Leech said, “Many people do not consider the connection between disability and hunger. Unfortunately, disability is a direct contributor to poverty and hunger, People with intellectual and physical disabilities are marginalized, they are not considered economically active and this leads them very often into the hunger trap.”

Sunrise is committed to helping people with physical and intellectual challenges lead valued lives in the community. Supports and training allow people to live their lives as independently as possible based upon their varying levels of ability. We are extremely grateful to Publix for their support of our mission and their continued commitment to people with disabilities. Thanks to the generosity of Publix and their customers, the goal of an inclusive society that recognizes the value and contributions of all residents is becoming a reality!
