At this year’s 42nd Annual FARF Conference, our very own Gloria Wetherington was presented with The Honorable Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award. It is only presented to those uniquely remarkable individuals who have thoroughly dedicated their lives towards serving people with disabilities, and there is no candidate more fitting than Gloria Wetherington.
The mother of a son with complex developmental disabilities, Gloria always had a deep connection and level of understanding for the issues and challenges faced by people with disabilities. In 1990, she became a member of the Sunrise Board of Directors and currently serves on the Finance Committee, Advocacy Committee, and the Executive Committee. She has also previously served as the Chairperson of the Health and Human Services Board District X and the State Board, served as Chairperson of United Cerebral Palsy of Florida Inc , and was a appointed to the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council
Gloria has been able to accomplish so much in her life, especially considering that she is also a full-time real estate entrepreneur and the owner of several properties throughout South Florida. While such career would usually be enough for one person, Gloria has sought to do so much more, artfully balancing her time and energy between business ventures and serving people in need. Needless to say, her latest award was well deserved. We are proud to have Gloria Wetherington as part of our Sunrise family and offer our sincerest congratulations and gratitude for her years of service and support for people with developmental disabilities.
